Golf New Zealand is a not-for profit charitable trust established in 1910 as the governing body for golf in New Zealand responsible for leading, growing and supporting the game. Golf is the most played sport in New Zealand with over half a million kiwis playing each year at one of the 390 clubs throughout the country.
As a sector, golf employs over 2,000 people and contributes more than a billion dollars to the national economy each year. As a sport, golf makes a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of its participants, increases the social connectivity of communities, and provides important education and life values outcomes for young people.
The Board strategic intent and future vision is to enrich the lives of New Zealanders through golf. To deliver this vision, the organisation is focused on inspiring increased participation in golf through a range of initiatives, programmes and support services.
The organisation also provides a wide range of services for the game including overseeing the rules of the game, running of the national handicapping system, managing the New Zealand Golf representative team programme (including the Olympic programme) and the management of over 20 elite golf tournaments.
Applications are now invited for three appointed Board directors (the Board comprises four appointed and five elected members).
One appointed position is to fill a casual vacancy for a term from 1 January 2025 through to 31 December 2025. The other appointed positions are for a term commencing 1 January 2025 through to 31 December 2027. Directors can apply for reappointment at the conclusion of their terms. On this occasion, two existing directors are applying for reappointment.

Following a review of the skills and expertise required, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate skills and experience in these areas:
- Digital Technology
- Corporate Governance and Networks
- Commercial, Sponsorship
- Key International Stakeholder Relationships
We are looking for directors who want to join a professional, experienced and competent Board and to assist Golf New Zealand continue to be a leading NZ sports organisation.
Successful applicants will have the ability to provide strategic direction, skills and expertise in one of the skill areas we have mentioned and ideally have a demonstrable passion for the game and a wish to contribute to our success going forward. The Board is also conscious of the need to diversify its governance personnel and encourage a wide representation of different ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds.
Director positions at Golf New Zealand are voluntary and have an expected time commitment of about ten to twelve days per annum.
