- Support children and young people with physical disabilities
- Capitalise on our long history to lead us into the future
- Significant property asset base
About us
The Wilson Home Trust (WHT) was established in 1935 when the Wilson family gifted their home and 13 acres of cliff top land in Lake Road, Takapuna to be used as a “home hospital”. Since that time, we have supported children and young people with physical disabilities, some of whom live at the Lake Road site with family during their rehabilitation. Our properties are primarily leased to Health New Zealand and the Ministry of Education (which built a school on our site), and we are also a well-loved facility for weddings and other events. Grant-making is a core part of the Trust’s mahi, and in the last financial year we supported over 300 individuals in this way.
The Trust is managed by a Committee of Management (COM), which acts in the same way as a Trust Board. It consists of a Chair and four members, who are appointed by Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand (3 members) and CCS Disability Action (2 members).
About the roles
We are seeking to appoint approximately 3-4 exceptional trustees in Q1 and Q2 of 2025, including a new Chair. These vacancies are the result of some long-standing board members reaching the end of their term, and we are seeking new skills to support the activation of our vision and purpose as we conclude a significant refurbishment of our villa facilities.
There are approximately 8 Board meetings a year, with additional meetings for the Grants Committee. The Chair in particular meets with the Trustee (Health New Zealand) quarterly.
About you
Ideally our new Chair and board members will be experienced directors, who can bring at least two of the following:
- Leadership and strategic vision
- Finance and/or legal expertise
- Deep and wide experience of the disability sector
- Credibility with Health New Zealand stakeholders
- Experience in property management and leasing, and/or development
- Fundraising experience / networks including high net worth individuals
- Lived experience of physical disability
- Youth perspective
In addition to these skills, you will share our commitment to equity and diversity. You will bring sound governance practice, future focused strategic thinking and a deep passion for our purpose. Meetings are in Auckland and there is a preference for members to be based in or around this region.
Board members are paid a small stipend.
