Chair and Trustee Appointments

  • Uphold the mission and values of Monte Cecilia Housing Trust
  • Provide strategic leadership and sound commercial acumen
  • Address housing inequality through courageous governance

Mō mātou | About Us

Monte Cecilia Housing Trust (MCHT) supports families experiencing housing insecurity across Tāmaki Makaurau by providing transitional and community housing.  We walk alongside families in housing crisis by delivering wrap around and tenancy management services.  As a charity connected to the Catholic Diocese of Auckland our objective is not only to house, but to uphold the mana and dignity of every whānau we serve.  Our team supports whānau with budgeting, parenting, tenancy preparation, and employment readiness—practical skills that restore dignity and create real pathways to independence.

With demand growing and housing inequity deepening, our stewardship has a vital role to play in safeguarding our mission and guiding strategic impact.

Ngā tūranga | The Opportunities

Monte Cecilia Housing Trust is seeking to make two impactful appointments to our Board of Trustees:

  • Chair
  • Trustee

These roles come at a pivotal moment.  With increasing demand for services, deepening housing inequities, and the ongoing pressure on social services, we are looking for experienced, strategic thinkers who can work with the Chief Executive and fellow Trustees to navigate complexity, uphold integrity, and drive impact.

The Chair of the Board

The Chair will provide strong and collaborative facilitation to a skilled and dedicated Board, ensuring effective governance, supporting the CE, and sustaining relationships with the Catholic Diocese of Auckland and external stakeholders.  You’ll steward the mission, model faith-aligned values, and ensure Board culture remains focused, productive, and united.  This is a hands-on governance leadership role that requires time, presence, and the ability to lead a values-based, high-functioning Board culture. A connection to the Catholic character of the trust is strongly preferred.

The Chair must bring:

  • Governance experience (Board or committee level; ideally not-for-profit)
  • Proven leadership in complex or community-focused environments
  • Financial acumen and strategic insight
  • Confidence in representing MCHT publicly and with the Diocese

The Trustee

Our next Trustee will add strength to an already diverse Board.  You may bring expertise in housing, property, finance, law, health, or social services—but above all, we’re looking for someone who shares our values and is committed to helping families thrive.

Trustees play a key part in guiding the strategy, stewardship, and sustainability of the Trust.

You’ll be expected to:

  • Actively participate in Board meetings and decision-making processes
  • Contribute to strategic planning and risk management
  • Provide oversight of financial performance and long-term sustainability
  • Support the Chief Executive and help evaluate organisational effectiveness
  • Represent MCHT’s mission in the community and advocate for its kaupapa
  • Champion good governance and uphold the values of Catholic social justice

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds—housing, property, finance, law, social services, Iwi, Pasifika or community leadership—and particularly value lived experience of housing vulnerability or homelessness.

You’ll need to be able to read and engage with financial statements, exercise independent judgement, and work constructively within a Board who are dedicated to empowering families to move forward with confidence and dignity.
