Haumaru Housing is a joint venture between Auckland Council and The Selwyn Foundation, providing safe and affordable housing for older people across Auckland. We manage 1,475 homes across 62 villages, supporting over 1,500 tenants to live independently with dignity and security.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
We’re seeking an exceptional Chief Executive to lead us through the next phase of expansion and impact. You’ll oversee our tenancy services, drive our housing development strategy and champion our values-driven culture.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a mission-driven organisation making a tangible difference to older Aucklanders in housing need. Your key responsibilities will be:
- Strategic Delivery: Lead implementation of the ten-year strategic plan, develop the housing development pipeline, and drive asset renewal and tenancy services growth.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Establish a sustainable funding model for operational and capital requirements, ensure robust financial reporting and risk management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster and manage relationships with government agencies, iwi, community organisations, and housing sector partners. Represent us publicly and champion tenant wellbeing.
- Organisational Leadership: Build a professional, inclusive, values-driven culture, align organisational structure and resources to strategic priorities.
Ko wai koe | About you
- Proven experience as a Chief Executive or senior executive ideally in social housing, property development or a related sector.
- Demonstrated ability to build high-trust relationships across government, iwi, community groups, and commercial partners, able to navigate complex political and sector dynamics.
- Strong business acumen and financial literacy, having had responsibility for a P&L and revenue generation.
- Outstanding people leadership capability – skilled in developing high-performing teams, fostering positive culture, managing performance, and driving organisational change.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, committed to building bicultural capability and culturally responsive leadership.
- An entrepreneurial mindset – innovative, future-focused, with the ability to identify and pursue new opportunities for growth and service delivery.
