Methodist Mission Northern
- Newly created Group Chief Executive role
- Significant assets, staff and services
- Faith-based values, bicultural commitment
Lead an organisation where social justice meets strategic impact
Mō mātou | About Us
For 170 years, Methodist Mission Northern has stood at the forefront of social change in Auckland. As a group of three Trusts – Methodist Mission Northern, The Lifewise Trust, and Airedale Property Trust – we operate as a sophisticated social enterprise: delivering frontline services that transform lives, stewarding $400 million in property assets, and advocating for systemic change.
With 320 staff across 10 services, the organisation addresses some of Auckland’s most pressing social challenges: homelessness, housing insecurity, disability support, early childhood education, family wellbeing, and care for older people. Our work is evidence-based, community-led, challenging injustice and creating sustainable solutions.
We are seeking a Group Chief Executive who can hold the complexity of this mission: maintaining deep community connection whilst engaging government at the highest levels; stewarding substantial commercial assets whilst driving service innovation; honouring Methodist heritage and theological foundations whilst leading contemporary approaches to social change.
He angitūtanga | The opportunity
In partnership with the Chair and Board, you’ll advance our strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability, operational excellence and fidelity to mission. You’ll lead a senior team, maintain strong relationships with the Church, and serve as public advocate on issues affecting marginalised communities.
Critical to success is your commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural partnership. You’ll implement the Māori Strategy, work authentically with whānau, hapū and iwi, and ensure the organisation can respond effectively to Māori communities.
You’ll oversee complex financial and asset management, develop sustainable funding streams, drive service innovation with people who have lived experience, and build collaborations that create meaningful change. The role demands someone who can think strategically about long-term sustainability whilst remaining grounded in the daily realities of frontline service delivery.
Ko wai koe | About you
You bring substantial senior executive experience leading complex organisations with multiple stakeholders. You are known as a compelling communicator, have managed substantial budgets, led organisational change, and achieved results under pressure. Your track record demonstrates strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement at senior levels (particularly with government, iwi and funders), and the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
You are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, having worked in bicultural contexts and engaged with whānau Māori. Experience leading social services or community development would be advantageous, as would experience in faith-based organisations. Above all, you are committed to the Methodist Church’s values, and demonstrate integrity, cultural responsiveness, flexibility and results focused. You’re driven by mission but understand the commercial realities of sustaining impact over generations.
