A core part of our education system, NZQA ensures that New Zealand qualifications are valued as credible and robust both nationally and internationally. We are accountable for managing the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, administering the secondary school assessment system, qualifications recognition and standard setting for some specified unit standards. With almost 500 permanent staff and approximately 7500 casual staff supporting our NCEA assessment role, we are a dynamic crown agency with an exciting future.
The Quality Assurance Division has a broad regulatory remit which includes independent quality assurance of non-university education providers as well as pastoral care code responsibilities, approving qualifications and programmes, assessing international qualifications, and monitoring sector risk.

As a Deputy Chief Executive, you will be a key leader across the organisation and play a critical role with the SLT, supporting the Chief Executive and Board. Specific responsibilities include:
- Manage a team of approx. 125 kaimahi, driving performance and a highly engaged, proactive culture.
- Lead the implementation of the new Integrated Quality Assurance Framework (iQAF).
- Develop our regulatory maturity including creating a whole-of-system view, new impact measures and improved risk-forecasting.
- Build effective partnerships across the sector ensuring alignment and collaboration.

We are seeking candidates who can offer:
- A proven track record as an exceptional people manager, creating high performing teams.
- Experience in regulatory leadership roles with similar scale, nuance and complexity.
- Executive team experience, the ability to contribute as an enterprise leader.
- An action oriented, results driven mindset with a deep understanding of measuring impact.
- Genuine curiosity combined with a sharp intellect and superior communication skills.
Education experience is not essential for this role, but you will need a genuine interest in and commitment to our kaupapa and the difference we make.
