As Deputy Secretary, Strategic Policy & Programmes you will be responsible for managing dynamic team and key functions past taking a system wide strategic lens to economic policy, regulatory stewardship and additional programmes required in our organisation.

We are looking for a highly credible leader who has had proven success leading in the economic policy sector and a track record of delivering through collaboration with other Government departments and stakeholders.  You will have the opportunity to lead some passionate and highly engaged teams including MBIE’s strategic policy group, Māori and Pacific economic development and MBIE’s program to reach excellence in regulatory stewardship.  At times this business group is required to set up and develop new functions which may be, once developed, transferred to other parts of MBIE and the wider public system.

As Deputy Secretary, Strategic Policy and Programmes you’ll be a key member of and contributor to the Senior Leadership Team, working collaboratively to ensure MBIE is delivering on its purpose – to ‘Grow New Zealand for All’ and delivering the MBIE organisation strategy Te Ara Amiorangi.

  • Significant experience at a senior executive level in the State Sector with extensive experience in economic policy leadership;
  • A reputation for leading complex, diverse functions and delivering results;
  • Proven strategic leadership experience at a senior level in a large and complex organisation;
  • Demonstrated ability to take a broad perspective and consider the implications of situations in terms of the wider context beyond MBIE; and
  • Demonstrated political acumen and ability to work with Ministers.
  • Experience in growing and developing new teams and ideas (incubator).
