Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and Board of Tupu Angitu to oversee a diverse investment portfolio (excluding core forest assets) and shape the future investment strategy and pipeline.

As the General Manager Investment, you will have overall responsibility for the full investment lifecycle from origination through monitoring and potential divestment. You will also build robust tools and systems to evaluate performance, ensuring the organisation achieves its strategic objectives.

Tupu Angitu is the commercial asset holding company for the Lake Taupō Forest Trust, with a significant asset base of approximately $500 million.  While currently primarily in forestry, there is a strong mandate for diversification.  As a values-centred entity, Tupu Angitu is dedicated to acting as the kaitiaki of critical assets, ensuring sustainable financial returns and positive economic outcomes for the future of Tūwharetoa Whānui.

We seek a candidate with proven experience in investment strategy and management.  Your success will be further enhanced by:

  • Strong understanding of investment policies, frameworks, and compliance.
  • Ability to apply kaupapa based values and ESG considerations in making investment decisions
  • Demonstrated track record in overseeing a broad investment portfolio, direct investments, successful deal-making and investment building.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to engage stakeholders at various levels.
  • A deep understanding of Māori values and kaupapa-based decision-making.
  • Knowledge of te reo me ona tikanga is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Tupu Angitu’s investment portfolio and future investment pipeline.
  • Develop and operationalise key policies and frameworks.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the Investment Policy Statement and other internal policies.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Chief Executive on investment portfolio and strategy.
  • Identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Build relationships with other Tūwharetoa and Māori investment organizations and the broader investment community.
