Haumaru Housing is a joint venture between The Selwyn Foundation and Auckland Council, providing safe and affordable housing for older people.  Our vision is to be the leading provider of affordable rental housing for older people in New Zealand.

Across the Auckland region, we refurbish existing villages and work with others to build new ones from scratch to meet the health, social and community needs of older people.  More than simply providing housing, we help secure the futures of older people and enhance their wellbeing. Evidence of our success is that our overall tenant satisfaction is 94%, and 100% of our homes are healthy homes compliant.

Haumaru Housing is governed by a dedicated and professional board.  Due to the retirement of our Chair, we are seeking a new board member who will be appointed by the Selwyn Foundation.  It is expected that this appointee will assume the Chair role, which is appointed by the Haumaru Housing Board itself.

For this appointment we are seeking candidates who offer:  

  • Credible Chair and governance experience.
  • A strong commercial skillset, which may include property experience.
  • Experience in finance and capital raising would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • A desire to contribute to the provision of affordable housing to benefit our community.
  • It is also essential that all Board Members have a genuine commitment to our kaupapa and values including those of te ao Māori.

As a Chair you will be highly professional, collegial, confident and decisive.  You will have a down-to-earth approach that makes you easy to work with, and you relish working with a range of stakeholders including communities, central and local government.

The Board meets monthly, and this is a paid position.  There is a preference for an Auckland based appointee, although Directors who travel regularly to Auckland will be considered.
