- Circa $1b asset portfolio
- Commercial arm of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is mana whenua in central Auckland. With the return of 10 acres at Ōrākei in 1978, further land in 1991 through the Ōrākei Act and the purchase of Te Tōangaroa in 1996, the tribe has rebuilt a strong commercial land and property portfolio. The iwi has established a post-settlement structure which includes the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust and subsidiaries Whai Rawa and Whai Maia.
Whai Rawa Limited is the commercial subsidiary of the Trust. Underpinned by our hapū mātāpono (values), Whai Rawa owns and manages a commercial property portfolio valued at around $1.1 billion. Our significant assets include Te Tōangaroa (Quay Park) in Central Auckland, Aecom House, land holdings at Unitec, on the North Shore (Navy Lands), and in Ōrākei. We also own and run the Eastcliffe Retirement Village, based in Ōrākei.
The Whai Rawa Board composition includes a mix of Whānau and Independent Directors. The Independent Directors play a critical role in ensuring best practice governance by bringing experience and capability to the Board. We are currently recruiting for two Independent Directors who will bring:
- Exceptional governance experience and profile involving large, complex, high-profile organisations
- Operational leadership experience
- Resilience and the ability to operate in a highly visible, political environment
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Strong high-level connections and networks
- Personal gravitas and mana
In addition, one appointee will bring deep commercial property expertise and the second will bring expertise across areas such as human resources, culture, organisational effectiveness and sustainability.
Appointments will be effective from December 2020 and are for an open term.
