Central Kids operates 47 kindergartens across 27 towns in the central North Island, serving more than 2,500 tamariki each year. We are a not-for-profit organisation guided by our kaupapa: Poipoia te kākano kia puāwai, mō tātou, ā, mō ngā uri ā muri ake nei. This role sits at the heart of Te Riu, our hull, ensuring the financial resilience, risk frameworks, and compliance systems that keep Central Kids stable, sustainable, and ready for the journey ahead.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Reporting directly to the Kaihautū (CEO) and sitting on the leadership team, this is a substantive general management role with genuine strategic weight. You will lead financial strategy, risk management, and compliance across a geographically dispersed, multi-site operation, including co-leadership of a $12 million capital investment programme.
Your responsibilities span:
- Long-term financial planning, forecasting, scenario modelling, and risk management.
- Treasury management, banking relationships, and cash flow optimisation.
- Compliance frameworks across ECE regulations, Charities Act, and not-for-profit governance requirements.
- Property and asset accounting for multiple sites, including depreciation, capital works, and asset revaluation.
- Government funding compliance (Ministry of Education, Oranga Tamariki, and other funders).
- Financial systems improvement and digital transformation, ensuring we are fit for purpose as we continue to grow.
- Building and leading a high-performing finance, risk, and compliance team.
You will provide clear, transparent reporting to the CEO, board, and Finance and Audit Committee, and work in close partnership with the Kaiwhakahaere Property and Digital Systems, Regional Services and the People, Culture, and H&S team.
We have offices in Rotorua and Hamilton, with our ELT working across these locations.

We are seeking a CA qualified finance leader with a genuine commitment to working in partnership with our kaimahi, leaders, and our board. Naturally collaborative and committed to continuous improvement, you seek to enable others and build their capability. You understand that financial decisions shape outcomes for tamariki and whānau and can make a real impact.
In particular you will bring:
- Senior financial leadership experience at executive or general management level, including board reporting, and strategic planning responsibility.
- Proven capability in capital programme financial management, property and asset accounting across dispersed portfolios, and enterprise risk framework development.
- Ideally, experience in the not-for-profit or community services sector, with solid working knowledge of government funding models.
- CA or equivalent with a commitment to best practice and continued learning.
