(With your contribution and my contribution, everyone will thrive)
At APEC New Zealand we are ambitious for New Zealand’s role in the Asia Pacific and the role trade will play in addressing future challenges. Hosting APEC in 2021 is a once in 20 year opportunity for our country. At a time of rapid global change, there is no other economic event on the NZ calendar with the same potential to shape our region’s future. We are a team with rich experience across many sectors – we invite enthusiastic, creative and committed people to join us.
The APEC New Zealand team is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade – a leading public sector employer offering a supportive, positive and ambitious working environment. This diverse and varied opportunity in our Māori Success team will call on your leadership to shape and advance innovative partnerships with Māori, indigenous economic cooperation and inclusion across the Asia Pacific region, and to support other members of the APEC team to grow their mātauranga Māori.
We have three new roles open in our growing Māori Success Team, which will work closely together with each other. Please refer to https://amytea.co.nz/opportunities/ to view the other positions.
You will lead the mātauranga Māori Strategy across the APECNZ Programme and provide support to value, validate and utilise mātauranga Māori, deliver a unique and authentic experience for delegates, create innovative partnerships with Māori, lead cultural engagements and grow mātauranga Māori capability amongst the APEC workforce. Your te reo Māori and extensive cultural competence will equip you with the credibility and reputation amongst Māori to lead a domestic upskilling programme and international world class events.
Working in an APEC context provides scope and flexibility to generate new ideas and proposals for Māori and run with them in a collaborative and supportive environment – both in Wellington, Auckland and offshore. You will use your experience and expertise to coach, mentor and role model others to achieve greater outcomes for Māori during New Zealand’s host year.
We’re looking for people to join a team who ideally bring a strong trade and economic background, deep knowledge of the Māori economy and related international opportunities. You will have established Māori and indigenous networks, be able to move confidently within te ao Māori and bring understanding of te reo Maori and tikanga. You will bring your strong technical expertise, creativity and mātauranga Māori to translate opportunities into concrete deliverables. You’ll be a collaborative player seeking to generate new economic value for Māori, enhance Māori’s contribution in the Asia-Pacific and to increase New Zealand’s reputation as an inclusive society and leader in indigenous development.
APEC NZ is a cross-disciplinary programme bringing together the best of MFAT and private sector expertise, and represents a unique opportunity to work within a wider project/programme culture which complements your core capabilities. The team is accommodating of flexible working arrangements and tools and this role can be shaped to reflect this.
This is a once in a generation opportunity to contribute to an important international kaupapa and where the experience you’ll gain from working on APEC 2021 will set you apart. We’re offering whanaungatanga and a fun team environment that you can help shape.
This role is part time and fixed term to December 2021.
