Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Mutunga is the voice and representative body for Ngāti Mutunga, responsible for managing Rūnanga assets for the benefit of our members. Our vision is clear: Ngāti Mutunga is culturally strong, secure in its identity and economically prosperous. We exist to facilitate the growth and development of our people and culture, and to prudently accelerate the growth of our assets.
We work across diverse interests including our subsidiary entities and the Urenui Pā Trust, maintaining strong relationships with iwi leadership across Taranaki, local and central government, and key stakeholders who are critical to Ngāti Mutunga business.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
As Pouwhakahaere, you’ll lead the implementation of our strategic direction and drive the delivery of our 5-year plan. This role requires someone who can operate at both strategic and operational levels, ensuring governance decision-making is supported by exemplary processes, information and advice delivered to high professional standards.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead implementation of the strategic plan, identify opportunities to empower our whānau, grow resources, and drive continuous improvement across all operations.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain high-trust relationships and communication with Ngāti Mutunga whānau, wider Taranaki leadership, councils, government agencies and key stakeholders.
- Financial and Operational Excellence: Ensure effective financial management systems, oversee budgets and cashflows, manage risk.
- People and Culture: Recruit, develop and manage a capable team, furthering our high performing, values-centred, organisational culture.
Ko wai koe | About you
We’re looking for an experienced leader who understands Māori business and social development. You’ll bring strategic thinking, commercial acumen and the ability to get things done. In particular, you’ll need:
- Proven leadership experience ideally within iwi, Māori organisations or similar complex entities.
- Strong understanding of tikanga Māori ideally with a connection to Ngāti Mutunga, with the ability to interact comfortably and authoritatively in the iwi context.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, develop strong rapport and represent the Rūnanga with credibility in public forums.
- Commercial ability to identify opportunities, risks and benefits across diversified investment activities, and to develop relationships and partnerships that benefit the Rūnanga and uri.
- A focus on getting things done and making a genuine difference to the prosperity and wellbeing of Ngāti Mutunga, building on our strong foundations for the future.
