Nāku te rourou, nāu te rourou, ka ora aite iwi.
(With your contribution and my contribution, everyone will thrive)

At APEC New Zealand we are ambitious for New Zealand’s role in the Asia Pacific, and the role trade will play in addressing future challenges.  Hosting APEC in 2021 is a once in 20 year opportunity for our country.  At a time of rapid global change, there is no other economic event on the NZ calendar with the same potential to shape our region’s future.  We are a team with rich experience across many sectors – we invite enthusiastic, creative and committed people to join us.

The APEC New Zealand team is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade – a leading public sector employer offering a supportive, positive and ambitious working environment.  Thisdiverse and varied opportunity in our Māori Success team will call on your expertise to help shape and advance innovative partnerships with Māori, indigenous economic cooperation and inclusion across the Asia Pacific region, and to support other members of the APEC team to grow their mātauranga Māori.

We have three new roles open in our growing Māori Success Team, which will work closely together with each other.  Please refer to https://amytea.co.nz/opportunities/ to view the other positions.

You will be responsible for showcasing the value of APEC to Māori audiences and profiling Māori and Indigenous Success to international audiences.  You will work closely with the Communications team and across APECNZ to ensure Māori Success is appropriately embedded and represented in the APEC story and messaging is consistent across all communications channels and platforms.  You will bring a strong understanding of government, a proven track record in working with Māori, knowledge of te ao Māori and Māori economy, an interest in international trade and relations, and ideally you will be able to korero and write in te reo Māori.

Working in an APEC context provides scope and flexibility to generate new ideas and proposals for Māori and run with them in a collaborative and supportive environment – both in Wellington, Auckland and offshore.  You will use your experience and expertise to coach, mentor and role model others to achieve greater outcomes for Māori during NZ’s host year.

We’re looking for people to join a team who ideally bring a strong trade and economic background, deep knowledge of the Māori economy and related international opportunities.  You will have established Māori and indigenous networks, be able to move confidently within te ao Māori and bring understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga.   You will bring your strong technical expertise, creativity and mātauranga Māori to translate opportunities into concrete deliverables.  You’ll be a collaborative player seeking to generate new economic value for Māori, enhance Māori’s contribution in the Asia-Pacific and to increase New Zealand’s reputation as an inclusive society and leader in indigenous development.

APEC NZ is a cross-disciplinary programme bringing together the best of MFAT and private sector expertise, and represents a unique opportunity to work within a wider project/programme culture which complements your core capabilities.  The team is accommodating of flexible working arrangements and tools and this role can be shaped to reflect this.

This is a once in a generation opportunity to contribute to an important international kaupapa and where the experience you’ll gain from working on APEC 2021 will set you apart. We’re offering whanaungatanga and a fun team environment that you can help shape.

This role is fixed term to December 2021.

To discuss the role please contact Amy Tea on 027 435 3000 or Jo Bell on 021 173 3523.

To apply send your cover letter and CV to apply@amytea.co.nz. Applications close Friday 12 June 2020.
