- Kaupapa Māori social work practice
- Innovative, game changing health and social services
- Flexible, open to part time arrangement
Ngāti Hine Health Trust is an innovative kaupapa Māori health and social services provider serving whānau across Te Tai Tokerau. Grounded in the values of Te Tū o Ngāti Hine, we are building an organisation that is bold, integrated, and deeply connected to the aspirations of our communities. We are doing things differently, challenging conventional practices and creating real impact.
As part of our transformation, we have established a Professional Leads group to strengthen practice quality across our organisation. The Chief Social Worker is a significant new role within this group, reporting to our Tumu Whakarae.
This is a part-time role at 0.25 FTE with flexibility about how that is structured. You will be based across our Whangārei and Kawakawa offices.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
This is a professional leadership role with real influence. You will set the standard for social work across our practice areas including Whānau Ora, justice services, youth, community navigation, and whānau wellbeing. You will work alongside the CEO, COO, and Service Leads to ensure our practice is safe, ethical, evidence-informed, and grounded in kaupapa Māori.
This is not a line management role. Your influence will be exercised through professional guidance, supervision frameworks, quality assurance, and the relationships you build with registered social workers across the organisation.
Key areas of focus include:
- Professional leadership and practice standards across all social work and navigation services
- Oversight of supervision frameworks, professional development, and registration compliance
- Expert advice to the Executive Team on complex cases, emerging issues, and practice risk
- Contribution to integrated service models, particularly in justice prevention and early intervention
- Representation of Ngāti Hine Health Trust in relevant professional and sector forums
Ko wai koe | About you
You are a highly experienced registered social worker with a background in leadership and/or strategic advisory positions. Innovative and committed, you are known for exceptional practice and the strength of your professional relationships. Deeply grounded in kaupapa Māori practice frameworks, you understand the complex drivers of whānau inequity, and you know how to support practitioners working in high-pressure environments. You are reflective, collegial, and courageous. You can hold a strategic view while remaining connected to frontline realities and have a deep commitment to mana-enhancing practice.
