Chair and Directors

Connecting and inspiring communities through Netball.

Netball New Zealand is appointing a new Chair and three Directors.  These are substantive governance roles at a national scale, with a compelling strategic agenda and a sporting community that is engaged, passionate, and ready for strong leadership.

With over 149,000 registered members, 300,000 annual participants, and the Silver Ferns as one of Aotearoa’s most celebrated taonga, the foundations of this sport are strong.  Guided by our Poipoiā strategic framework, the incoming board will lead the next chapter: strengthening our presence, deepening partnerships, accelerating digital transformation, sustaining world-class performance, and ensuring netball remains vibrant and relevant for every community it serves.

Ko wai koe | About you

In addition to a depth of governance experience, the board is seeking to build collective strength across several priority areas:

  • Broadcast, media, digital and marketing expertise, including content, technology, and social media.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience creating and building value in complex organisations.
  • Oversight of high-performance systems, including alignment with High Performance Sport New Zealand.
  • People and culture expertise, including developing organisational culture, people leadership, and workforce wellbeing.
  • Cultural diversity and genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Chair candidates should bring extensive governance leadership, experience navigating organisational complexity or reset, strong national networks, and the credibility to lead a high-performing board and represent the sport publicly.

Director candidates should bring governance experience in complex organisations, ideally through periods of significant transformation, along with strategic thinking, sound independent judgement, and real depth in at least one of the priority areas above.

All candidates must demonstrate competency in te ao Māori and the capacity to commit appropriate time to Board duties and key events. The roles are remunerated and the Board meets bi-monthly, with meetings held in person and online.

Above all, we are looking for people who are genuinely connected to netball’s kaupapa, passionate about growing its impact, and committed to ensuring this sport thrives for the next generation of New Zealanders.
