Monte Cecilia Housing Trust (MCHT) was established in 1982, when the Sisters of Mercy and Marist Brothers responded to a call to house families experiencing homelessness. Today, MCHT is one of Auckland’s most established community housing providers, and continues as a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Auckland.

Based in Māngere, MCHT provides housing and wraparound support to families across Auckland, with deep and genuine connections into the Pacific community in particular. The Trust manages over 600 tenancies and employs over 50 kaimahi.

Following a Board strategic planning process earlier this year, MCHT has set a clear direction for the next three to five years. This includes strengthening its housing portfolio, its people and capability, its data and financial resilience, and its relationships across government, the sector, and the communities it serves.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We’re seeking an experienced Chief Executive or senior executive who can lead a complex, mission-driven organisation who combines commercial discipline with a deep commitment to people, purpose and community.

As Chief Executive, you will report to the Board leading a senior leadership team of six with responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of the organisation.

Your priorities will include:

• Strategic leadership: working with the Board to implement MCHT’s strategic priorities across housing, data and insights, people and capability, financial resilience, and stakeholder engagement.
• Board partnership: building a transparent, high-trust relationship with the Board, raising issues early, and respecting the distinction between governance and management.
• Commercial and financial stewardship: bringing genuine commercial acumen to a $32 million organisation, with a sound grasp of contracts, leases, balance sheets, and disciplined financial decision-making.
• People leadership: leading and developing a capable senior leadership team, and running a lean, efficient organisation.
• Stakeholder and community relationships: strengthening MCHT’s standing with government agencies, funders, and sector partners, and deepening its connection with the Pacific families and communities it serves.
• Catholic character: understanding and supporting MCHT’s identity as a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Auckland and working closely with the Diocese.

Ko wai koe | About you

You’ll be an experienced Chief Executive or senior executive ready to lead a complex, community-minded organisation with both heart and commercial discipline.

You will bring:

• Proven senior leadership: experience as a CE or in a significant senior executive role including working effectively with a governance board.
• Commercial and financial rigour: genuine comfort with financial detail, contracts, and ideally including property or asset-based operations.
• Sector exposure: experience in community or social housing, or a related social good sector would be advantageous, although we’re open to strong candidates from adjacent backgrounds who can demonstrate the right values and transferable skills.
• Cultural connection: a genuine affinity for, or willingness to embrace MCHT’s Catholic character and mission, alongside a strong understanding of and connection with Pacific communities.
• People and culture leadership: the ability to build trust, hold people to account, and lead a small, dedicated team well. Above all, you will demonstrate leadership that aligns with Monte Cecilia’s mission, values and commitment to improving outcomes for whānau.
