Haumaru Housing provides safe, secure and affordable housing to older people across Auckland, enabling them to live independently and age well within their community.  Following a recent restructure, this newly created Financial Controller role offers the chance to build and lead a permanent finance team from the ground up, and to be a trusted, values-led leader within a purpose-driven organisation.

He angitūtanga | The Opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Controller leads the day-to-day operational finance function, overseeing a small team responsible for tenant billing, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end reporting.  This is a hands-on leadership role: you will bring structure and consistency to a team currently operating on a contracted basis, while driving accuracy, efficiency and strong financial controls across a high-volume, socially funded environment.

This is genuinely a people-first role.  You will build capability, set clear expectations, and create a stable, well-supported team environment, alongside maintaining the technical rigour Haumaru’s tenants and funders rely on.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a small finance team (Accounts Assistants x2, Credit Controller), building a stable and capable permanent structure.
• Own the month-end close and financial reporting cycle, delivering accurate results with variances explained within five working days.
• Oversee high-volume tenant billing, MSD subsidy processing, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Maintain strong internal controls, reconciliations and audit readiness across all ledgers.
• Champion MYOB Greentree and identify automation opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting and relationships with auditors and external stakeholders.
• Partner with Community, Portfolio Growth and Property and Facilities teams to resolve tenant billing and account issues.

Ō pūkenga | About You

You are a proven people leader, with genuine experience building, coaching and stabilising a finance team. You will also have:

• CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) ideally, with deep experience in a senior finance role.
• Experience in property, housing, or a multi-site, high-volume billing environment is highly regarded.
• Confident with MYOB Greentree or a comparable ERP system, and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong grounding in financial controls, reconciliations and audit requirements.
• A calm, accountable operator who takes ownership and brings clarity to a growing team.
• Comfortable working within a culturally responsive, Te Tiriti-informed organisation.
