Mō mātou | About Us
Haumaru Housing provides safe, secure and affordable housing to older people across Auckland, enabling them to live independently and age well within their community. This Executive Leadership Team role offers a genuine opportunity to bring the tenant voice into strategic decision-making, and to shape the future of community services for a growing cohort of older Aucklanders in housing need.
He angitūtanga | The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Head of Community oversees our community operations and placements teams, and provides a strong, strategic tenant voice at the Executive Leadership Team table.
You will have executive responsibility for our frontline teams, oversee tenancy growth planning, and act as the escalation point for complex tenancy matters, including Tenancy Tribunal issues. The role calls for someone with the confidence to question policy that no longer serves tenants well, and the judgement to navigate sensitive tenancy situations with care.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Community and Placements teams embedding consistent, high-quality tenancy services.
- Provide a strong, strategic community voice at ELT, ensuring tenant and community outcomes shape organisational decision-making.
- Act as the escalation point for high-risk tenant concerns, complex tenancy matters and Tenancy Tribunal issues.
- Lead strategic planning for tenancy growth, placements and relocations, working closely with the Portfolio Growth team.
- Hold accountability for the financial performance of the Community and Placements functions, including occupancy and rental income.
- Champion continuous improvement, including the annual tenant satisfaction survey and resulting action plans.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with Finance, Portfolio Growth and Property and Facilities teams.
Ō pūkenga | About You
You bring proven senior leadership experience in aged care, community housing, social services, or a comparable cohort-focused environment; a housing-specific background is not required. You will also have:
- Social services operations experience: bringing experience in service delivery either in housing or a related social service where regulatory requirements, escalation pathways and complex case management are key challenges.
- Strategic and commercial judgement: strong problem-solving instinct and forward planning capability, with the confidence to challenge and improve policy where needed.
- Commercial and risk management skill: sound reporting and stakeholder engagement capability, bringing a collegial approach and a strong bias for action.
- Cultural connection: comfort working within a culturally responsive, Te Tiriti-informed organisation.
Te utu | What’s on Offer
